"On Fire for Peace 2019"
Last year the congregation gathered for a peace prayer event which was entitled “On Fire for Peace.” Continuing that idea, the Mission and Evangelism Team is sponsoring a follow-up event: “On Fire for Peace 2019.” Weather permitting, we will gather around a fire pit on the parking lot. We will hear stories, songs, and prayers for peace from scripture and faith leaders (past and present). The service is being planned by Pastor Connie and will involve several members of the congregation. If you have something you would like to share, please speak with Pastor Connie.
Last year’s event included the following statement from the writings of Martin Luther King, Jr. (compiled by Abigail Reichard):
I refuse to believe that we are unable to influence the events around us.
I refuse to believe we are bound by racism, war, and injustice.
I believe those around me are my brother and my sister.
I believe in dignity every day and that our brokenness can be healed.
I believe we can overcome oppression and violence, without resorting to it.
This means I seek to reject revenge and retaliation.
I remember, “Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can.”
Perhaps this is a good place to begin “On Fire for Peace 2019.” All are welcome! Come and join us on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship and roasting s’mores.
